Information about Home of Hope Orphanage in Siaya, Kenya
Christian House Sitters is urgently trying to raise sponsors for 70 children at a Christian Orphanage in Kenya (at £15 per month each) to feed these children and to save this orphanage from closure.
Our own church, Life Community Baptist in Horsham, (UK Registered Charity Number 1130002) supports the Osare orphanage in Kisumu and has planted 5 rural churches in the surrounding area. Ray, who is a leader in our church, went to Kenya with our Pastor Rev J Shimizu and a team in February. While they were there they were contacted by the child development officer for Kisumu who said that the law had changed and that the orphanages need to be officially registered. She explained what needed to be done and our churches doing everything they can to save the Osare orphanage.
Last year Marilyn felt that the Lord wanted her to write a book about orphans and she got to know a wonderful Christian young man by the name of Erick who is the administrator at the Home of Hope orphanage in Siaya. He was a Street child who had been rescued at the age of 10 and brought up at the Osare orphanage. Two years ago he went to help Pastor Josiah who runs the Home of Hope Orphanage in Siaya. They have very little. At the time we felt the Lord leading us to raise money for them and at Christmas gifts received from members of Christian House Sitters provided money so that the children could have a good Christmas.
Since then Marilyn has become the UK coordinator for Home of Hope and is trying to save the orphanage. They will also need to be registered and as result will need to make significant changes. She is working under the umbrella of our church and using the church charity status. They have installed a well at Home of Hope and built two dormitories and a storeroom but that is all that they are able to do at this stage.
Our church cannot do any more to help financially as they are already fully committed to the Osare orphanage.
There are 15 widows who live on the premises and help with the children. We are trying to raise support for the 70 children who stay there and if you or anyone from your church, men's group, woman's group, youth club, etc would like to sponsor one of these children at £15 per month that would be wonderful.
Naturally any other support or help that you able to offer would also be greatly appreciated.
We have not yet received any notification of registration requirements at Home of Hope so are trying to get as much done as quickly as possible before we are contacted. For example Marilyn is trying to raise money for eco-toilets which would not need plumbing as there are no toilets at the orphanage and the children have to use a field. She is also trying to raise money for bunk beds, dining room, kitchen, and more dormitories.
If you're not able to help financially please could you still pray as we need to have Christians behind us.
Marilyn grew up in Zimbabwe spending about three months a year for five years on a mission station and then moved to South Africa. She lived in Africa for 35 years before moving to the UK and loves Africa and African people and really wants to save this orphanage.
