Information about Home of Peace Children's Home in Siaya, Kenya

Sponsors are urgently needed for food for the children at the Home of Peace Children's Home in Siaya Kenya at £20 per month.

All the fees from Christian housesitters goes towards food for Home of Peace but this supplies only about a quarter of the basic food needs for these children

We also need people to sponsor the staff who get no salary at present. They just get a gift of around £12 per month each.

Any gifts would be a great help.

Please consider asking your church or a group in your church to consider taking on the sponsorship of even one child.

Some Background Information.
Our Church first became involved with this ministry in 2004 when it was just a room with a few children sitting and sleeping on the floor.
In 2010 the church felt that they could not continue to support this work financially due to the many demands on the church finance.
After much prayer Marilyn White (The manager of Christian House Sitters) agreed to take on the responsibility for all the finances and for the training of the staff.
She is now part of the management together with James Onyango and is in contact with them a few times a week.

Management and Staffing Structure.

Management team.

Marilyn White (The manager of CHS) manages the team with the leaders at the home
We also have a local Advisory Board made up of key people from the area
We have recently appointed a Training Officer who visits the home once a week to work with the leaders and staff Marilyn Is a trained Counselling Supervisor, a Children's Counsellor and a Business Manager with experience in handling legal work.

Marilyn grew up in Zimbabwe spending about three months a year for five years on a mission station and then moved to South Africa. She lived in Africa for 35 years before moving to the UK and loves Africa and African people and really wants to save this Children's Home.

The leadership team consists of Erick the Administrator and Acting Social Worker and Hellen who is our First Aid Nurse and Activities Coordinator.

Christian House Sitters is run by Ray & Marilyn White . All income is passed through T.L.C. Children's Trust and carefully accounted for. All income goes to the support of the Home of Peace Children's Home.

Marilyn is working very hard to raise funds and to get sponsors for the children. She also needs funds to purchase cots for the babies, more beds, additional dormitories, etc. These are needed in order to apply for registration with the Kenyan government.

Since we started supporting this home we have achieved the following:

NOTE This is in addition to providing the children with food, accommodation, clothing, medical care and an education

* Built 2 toilet blocks with wash rooms. Prior to this the children used a local field. This has had a significant positive impact on their health.

* Built and equipped a nursery room for the young children.

* Erected a security fence around the property to protect them from predators (human and animal).

* Provided beds, bedding, mosquito nets etc. for all the children.

* Erected a temporary kitchen.

* Provided all the children who are of school going age with school fees, exam fees, uniforms, text books, note books etc.

* Repainted and repaired the dormitories

* Replaced the floor in their church which the children use as a meeting place every day

* Established a first-aid system which has reduced the money spent sending children to the local medical clinic for minor injuries.

* Established good working relationships with the local authorities.

* Arranged a number of unannounced visits to check on the home.

* Installed electricity in the Home (see news letter [News Updates]

* We have just finished putting up a permanent kitchen for the Home.

NOTE. All supplies etc. are purchased locally. We do not waste money shipping out things that they can obtain from a local supplier. This saves money and benefits the local community. We do however insist on detailed, official receipts and for items such as beds, uniforms etc. photographs showing these items on site.

How can you help? Either by sponsoring a child at £20 per month or by an occasional gift towards the work. Note until all the children have sponsors the money will be used towards feeding them all. We can give you details of a child to pray for and once all have sponsors your gift will go to that child.
